As a recovering perfectionist
It’s taken me 25 years to realise that
Mess is not a sign of weakness
But of life.

Look at the mangroves —
How their roots and branches twirl,
Unfurling intimacy, tangled and
Curled together like limbs, inviting you in.

To the One who gives the ocean lips,
Calls melodies from the mouths of waves
And breasts of birds,
Bring music to my soul.

Tune my ears to feel the rain
Beating on the door to my heart,
Beckoning these semi-quavers
To take a breath.
